Tenure-track Faculty in Mathematics (TTFM)

Subject to the availability of funding, the School of Mathematics (SoM) at Georgia Tech expects to make one or more tenure-track faculty hires from any area of Pure and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. This position presents exceptional opportunities in foundational research, training programs, and cross-disciplinary connections. Priority will be given to candidates strengthening connections across Georgia Tech as well as within the School. Opportunities for enhanced SoM interactions with Georgia Tech’s Interdisciplinary Research Institutes http://www.research.gatech.edu/interdisciplinary-research, a new cross-disciplinary NSF-funded center in data science, and the College of Sciences Research Centers http://www.cos.gatech.edu/research-centers, are complemented by GT Mathematics Application Portal activities. The School is a key player in cross-disciplinary graduate programs at Georgia Tech, including PhD programs in Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization (ACO), Computational Science and Engineering, Bioinformatics, Quantitative Biosciences, and Machine Learning, as well as several cross-disciplinary MS programs. The quantitative focus across Georgia Tech supports expansion of SoM collaborations with other Schools such as Industrial Systems Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Scheller College of Business, Aerospace Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. The growth of undergraduate enrollment in the Sciences motivates options such as the neuroscience BS and other new programs that prepare students for the mathematically demanding careers in the 21st century. In addition, the successful candidate will: (1) show the potential to carry out research of exceptional quality at Georgia Tech; (2) complement existing strengths in the School of Mathematics, listed at http://www.math.gatech.edu/faculty-research-interests; (3) reinforce bridges to programs and Institutes at Georgia Tech as discussed above; (4) have strong potential for external funding; (5) demonstrate enthusiasm and potential for supervision of junior researchers at all levels; and (6) have a demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as the duties will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. The potential for contributing to other School of Math and Georgia Tech strategic priorities, such as growth of research training programs and engaging with diverse communities, will be considered a plus.

Appointments at the assistant professor level are preferred, but exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered. A Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in Statistics or Mathematics or a closely related field is required. Applications should consist of a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, a summary of future research plans, evidence of teaching interest and abilities, and at least three letters of reference. Candidates for Associate and Full Professor positions should submit a statement outlining their vision for leadership and contributions as a senior faculty member at Georgia Tech.

Applications should be submitted directly to http://www.mathjobs.org. In exceptional circumstances where electronic submission is not possible, applications may be sent to the Hiring Committee, School of Mathematics, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, 30332-0160, USA. For full consideration applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all materials by December 10, 2017. However, consideration of applications is ongoing until positions are filled. Applications by highly qualified candidates from groups underrepresented in the mathematical sciences are particularly encouraged, as well as those with the skills and commitment to engage productively with diverse communities. Georgia Tech is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal, state, or local law. Consistent with its obligations under federal law, each company that is a federal contractor or subcontractor is committed to taking affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified women, minorities, disabled individuals and veterans.
