Applications are invited for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level in statistics or mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte starting August, 2022. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in statistics, biostatistics, financial statistics, applied statistics, or other relevant areas of mathematics; a commitment to establishing a productive research program; a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; a commitment to building a culturally diverse work, research, and teaching environment; and potential for external funding. One of the positions is for any area of statistics, including applied statistics, theoretical statistics, biostatistics, financial statistics, and computational statistics. The second position is part of the department’s effort to support the data science program at UNC Charlotte. Therefore, preference for this position will be given to applicants with expertise and experience in computational statistics and data science broadly speaking, including areas of statistics and mathematics that overlap with recent trends in data science, as well as a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and commensurate experience.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UNC Charlotte has 40 primary faculty members, more than 250 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. The Department offers a doctoral program with concentrations in applied mathematics and statistics. The department also offers two master’s programs in mathematics and mathematical finance and offers a variety of undergraduate concentrations leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics. As the largest and most diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences houses 21 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and military sciences, as well as 28 applied research centers and interdisciplinary programs. With its 35 graduate degrees and 78 undergraduate degree options, the College is connected to the world and its concerns, and is particularly supportive of the greater Charlotte region. The School of Data Science (SDS) is an interdisciplinary unit with more than 80 faculty associated with 21 departments and is governed by four colleges including the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the College of Computing and Informatics, the Belk College of Business, and the College of Health and Human Services.
