Assistant Professor
Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at Boise State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor starting in fall 2018. Candidates must demonstrate strong research potential in computational mathematics, computational statistics, or scientific computing and be able to contribute to the Computational Science & Engineering (CSE) emphasis area of the new interdisciplinary PhD program in Computing. Successful candidates will contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to research involving undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates are expected to 1) pursue an active research program involving collaborations beyond Boise State University, 2) submit competitive external funding proposals, 3) guide undergraduate senior theses and MS theses in mathematics, 4) supervise high-quality PhD theses in CSE, 5) assist in the continued development of a vibrant student community engaged in the mathematical, statistical, and computational sciences, and 6) contribute meaningfully to appropriate professional and institutional service.

Additional desired qualifications for the position include 1) post-PhD research experience, 2) experience in parallel scientific computing with the ability to teach a course in this area, 3) interest and ability in making contributions to developing interdisciplinary projects with other fields represented at Boise State University, the Boise metropolitan area and beyond, as appropriate to the candidate’s field of expertise, and 4) a desire to deepen the department’s outreach activities, such as educational programs involving schools and the public, or collaboration with industry.

The Department of Mathematics is in the College of Arts and Sciences, and offers a MS degree with emphases in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. Additionally, it is part of a consortium of departments that contributes to the interdisciplinary PhD program in Computing, which has emphases in CSE, Cybersecurity, and an anticipated one in Data Science. Members of the department are involved in collaborative activities with colleagues from other departments and colleges at Boise State University and with other research institutions. Boise State University has recently been named a Doctoral Research University in the Carnegie Classification.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in a discipline of applied mathematics, statistics, or computational science.

Salary and benefits:
