About the University and Department:
Boise State University is the largest university in Idaho, with enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. The University has the most graduate programs in the state and is categorized as a Doctoral University with High Research Activity (R2) in the Carnegie Classification. The Mathematics Department is a primary contributor to the interdisciplinary PhD in Computing, which has emphases in Data Science, Computational Mathematics, Science & Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Computer Science. The department also leads efforts in the College of Arts and Sciences to provide a focused path for data science professionals along with options for all majors to develop data science skills. Mathematics faculty engage in interdisciplinary research with faculty across the University, especially those affiliated with the new Schools of the Environment and Computing. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to engage with and be supported by the School of the Environment (SoE). The SoE is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) and has a vision to cultivate collaborative solutions to contemporary environmental challenges in ways that only an urban, public research university can. The ultimate legacy of the School of the Environment (SoE) will be realized through generations of graduates who gain marketable technical, critical, and interpersonal skills through close collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to solve difficult environmental problems during their time at Boise State. Faculty within the Department of Mathematics are essential to accomplishing the vision of the SoE. Support available from Research Computing includes access to and use of on-campus and remote high performance computing resources, provisioning of data storage, data management assistance, and providing personnel support for research software engineering and development.
