The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Illinois at Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to begin on August 16, 2019. This is a full-time on-campus position. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service. Located in the state capital, the University of Illinois Springfield is one of three members of the University of Illinois system. The University serves approximately 5,000 students in 30 undergraduate and 22 graduate degree programs. The academic curriculum offers students a strong liberal arts core, a wide range of professional programs, and close faculty interaction. Making the most of its location in the state capital, UIS is broadly engaged in public policy and service. Its diverse student body includes traditional, non-traditional, and international students. Twenty-five percent of majors are in 17 undergraduate and graduate online degree programs and the campus has received several national awards for its implementation of online learning. Duties: Teach a range of mathematics courses including online Multivariable Calculus (the third and the final part of a standard three-semester calculus sequence), online History of Mathematics, and various mathematics courses (online and/or on-ground) that support the department curriculum and the university's General Education requirement as needed. Other duties include engaging in scholarly and service activities appropriate to her/his professional development and advising mathematics majors. Typically, this involves meeting with students to discuss their class schedules, academic goals and career plans, as well as routine paper work. Participate in departmental meetings, serve on departmental committees, and carry out other departmental-level duties/activities as needed. Serve on college/university level committees as pertain to the faculty member’s expertise and interests. Share responsibilities with department faculty in contributing to liberal arts education, through online and on-ground, lower division instruction. Participate in curriculum development.

Qualifications: Doctorate degree in Pure Mathematics is required. The desired qualifications of candidates include demonstrated excellent undergraduate teaching ability, potential for scholarship and service activities. Experience in teaching at-risk and academically underprepared students is highly preferred.
