Position Description
Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics beginning September 16, 2024. The area of research is dynamical systems with interdisciplinary applications. Preference will be given to applicants showing potential for applications and collaborations in one or more of the following areas: sustainable materials, renewable energy, climate & marine sciences, bio-health sciences, and/or computational/data science. Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or a related field by the anticipated starting date, but experience beyond doctoral dissertation is normally expected. The salary is commensurate with research and teaching experience. Priority will be given to candidates that complete their application by December 1, 2023. Assistant Professors in the College of Science and the Department of Mathematics are expected to demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, advising and other institutional activities; achievement in scholarship and creative activity that establishes the individual as a significant contributor to the field or profession; and an appropriate balance of institutional and professional service. All professorial positions are expected to make significant contributions to undergraduate and graduate education. The primary mission of the OSU Mathematics Department is to provide education to undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and to conduct research and scholarly activities in pure and applied areas of mathematics and mathematics education. The department offers PhD, MS, and BS degrees in Mathematics and has a growing student body of about 70 graduate students and more than 250 undergraduate majors. The College of Science provides a core instructional role at OSU, supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university.
