The School of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to recruit two Research Associates. These posts are funded by an EPSRC Grant `Geometry from Donaldson-Thomas invariants’ held by Prof. Tom Bridgeland and are fixed term for 36 months, with a starting date of October 2022 (subject to negotiation). The project aims to understand geometric structures on spaces of stability conditions defined by the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of three-dimensional Calabi-Yau triangulated categories. In particular examples these structures relate to Hitchin systems, isomonodromic deformations and cluster varieties. There also seem to be interesting links with the Gross-Siebert programme in mirror symmetry, and with the study of supersymmetric gauge theories of class S.

Working alongside 5 academic staff and several other postdocs in the algebraic geometry group will provide you with a stimulating environment to develop a successful research career. Funds will be available for professional development, such as conference participations and research visits. You should have a PhD in a relevant area of pure mathematics or theoretical physics, or equivalent experience. We are looking for someone with a strong background in an area closely related to the topic of the research programme. Relevant areas include stability conditions, Donaldson-Thomas theory, topological string theory, mirror symmetry, cluster algebras, supersymmetric gauge theory, non-abelian Hodge theory.

The closing date for applications is 3rd January 2022. Informal enquiries can be directed to Prof. Tom Bridgeland (
