The Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) invites applications for the position of project scientist at the institute’s Center for Projects and Innovation (Centro Pi). Centro Pi was established as a hub for mathematical, computational and statistical projects involving IMPA's researchers and students and its partners in government and industry. Its overarching goals include accelerating knowledge transfer to the public and private sectors; producing technical and scientific advances inspired by interactions with our external partners; and providing educational opportunities for our students.

The newly created career of project scientist is a permanent, non-tenure-track position expected to play a pivotal role in the activities of Centro Pi. The main contributions of project scientists to the Centro Pi’s activities are:

a) strategically attracting research opportunities and securing external funding to support Centro Pi's mission; b) coordinating and executing projects with external partners in the general area of mathematical sciences; c) supervising students as a part of project activities.

Project scientists are expected to contribute in other ways, which may include writing technical reports and papers; advising students and teaching regular academic courses at the MSc and PhD level, possibly in coordination with industrial projects' goals; and taking part in academic seminars.

The position’s yearly base salary ranges from BRL 140,556.84 to BRL 192,500.40 (before taxes), to be supplemented with funds from projects carried out at Centro Pi, up to a maximum yearly total ranging from BRL 421,670.64 to BRL 471,519,84 (before taxes).
