    The department of Mathematics and Statistics at Whitman College invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to start Fall 2022. A Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field is required. An equal opportunity employer, Whitman values diversity and encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups.

    The successful candidate will offer courses in Introductory and Advanced Statistics, Probability Theory, and Statistical Modeling as well as courses that contribute to the College's general education requirements. The new hire will also have an opportunity to develop new courses in statistics and data science to support the existing Data Science minor as well as develop a new Mathematics - Statistics major. In addition, the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Whitman collaborates closely with Computer Science and Economics to develop new courses and programs that could better address student interests at the intersection of these areas. The department values and welcomes creativity and provides a supportive environment for the realization of new ideas. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise complements existing departments and programs other than mathematics (such as biology, economics, environmental studies, or psychology). The standard annual teaching load is five courses. The College provides a generous pre-tenure sabbatical leave program and professional development support for both research and teaching.
