The School of Mathematics welcomes applications for a Research Fellowship in Applied Mathematics and Statistics to work with Dr Panayiota Touloupou and Dr Joaquin M. Prada (University of Surrey) on the Task Force for Global Health funded project "Efficient post-elimination surveillance strategies for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)". The post-holder will be involved in the development of statistical methods for optimizing NTD diagnostics and sampling strategies for low-prevalence settings, as part of a collaboration with scientists at Lancaster University (Dr Emanuele Giorgi, Dr Claudio Fronterre and Prof Peter Diggle) and leading experts in the World Health Organization and Task Force for Global Health.

The post is available for a period of 12 months. The starting date is 20th of February 2023 or earlier (with some flexibility). Remote working based in the UK can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on 16/01/22.

The successful candidate will join a community of researchers in the Mathematical Data Science group within the School of Mathematics, University of Birmingham. The group consists of 10 permanent staff as well as a large cohort of postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers and has a proven track-record in mentoring and supporting the development of early-career researchers. Applicants should have a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology or related areas awarded or submitted at the time of taking up the position, a strong record of research and publications and familiarity with mathematical or statistical modelling or epidemiology.
