The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Utah State University is seeking to fill a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a starting date of August 2017. The research area for this position is within topology, geometry, or a closely related area, with an emphasis on low-dimensional topology. A PhD in mathematics is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience and record of publications in (one) of the aforementioned research areas. Applicants should be able to teach a wide variety of mathematics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Moreover, candidates should be dedicated to our teaching mission, with some demonstrated commitment to undergraduate/graduate education and mentoring, and who has a coherent research agenda in an area that enhances our curriculum and potentially increases existing research strengths and makes connections between mathematical sub-disciplines.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics contains a Differential Geometry, Computer Algebra, and Mathematical Physics (DGCAMP) group, comprising Ian Anderson, Mark Fels, Nathan Geer, Andreas Malmendier and Zhaohu Nie, from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, and Maria Rodriguez, Charles Torre and Oscar Varela in the Department of Physics. The department offers BS, BA, MS, and PhD degrees in mathematics and statistics. The Department currently has 31 full-time faculty at the main campus in Logan, with additional faculty serving at USU's regional campuses throughout the state. The department has approximately 250 undergraduate majors, and more than 60 graduate students. Utah State University has approximately 17,000 students on the Logan campus, is a land grant, Space Grant, and Carnegie Doctoral/STEM-dominant/high research activity university. Based in Logan (perennially rated as one the safest communities in America), USU is surrounded by spectacular mountains offering a wide range of outdoor activities.
