Brown University, Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM)

These positions are intended for mathematical scientists at an early stage of their career (those who have completed their Ph.D. within three years of the start of the appointment)

2018-2019 Postdoctoral Institute Fellows

ICERM’s two Postdoctoral Institute Fellowships are nine-month appointments. Both positions commence in September 2018. One Institute Fellow will participate in the fall 2018 Nonlinear Algebra semester program and remain as a researcher-in-residence during the spring 2019 semester. The other Institute Fellow will begin as a researcher-in-residence during the fall 2018 semester and will participate in the spring 2019 Computer Vision semester program. ICERM will match these two Institute Fellows with faculty mentors for the entire academic year. Institute Fellows receive a nine-month salary of $52,000 with a stipend towards benefits, and a travel allowance of $1,500.

2018-2019 Postdoctoral Semester Fellows

ICERM’s ten Postdoctoral Semester Fellowships are four-month appointments. Five Semester Fellows will begin their appointments in September 2018 during the Nonlinear Algebra semester program. The other five Semester Fellows will begin their appointments in February 2019 during the Computer Vision semester program. ICERM will match each Semester Fellow with a faculty mentor for the duration of their semester program. ICERM Semester Fellows receive a salary of $26,000 over four months, plus a stipend for benefits, and a travel allowance of $750.

Eligibility: Applicants who have completed their Ph.D. within three years of the start of the appointment will receive priority review. The research statement must clearly indicate which semester program the applicant is interested in (Nonlinear Algebra or Computer Vision); whether the application is for the Institute (9 month) or Semester (4 month) postdoctoral fellowship, or both; and how their research interests relate to the scientific goals of their chosen semester program topic. If applying for the Institute postdoc position, the research statement should also outline research plans for work to be done during the "researcher-in-residence" part of the appointment. Documentation of completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in mathematics or a related area by the start of the appointment is required.

For full consideration: Applicants must submit an AMS Standard Cover Sheet, cover letter, curriculum vitae (including publication list), research statement, and three letters of recommendation. Priority will be given to applications received before January 1, 2018.
