The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track, academic year position in mathematics or statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2023. Candidates should have documented expertise in Research on Undergraduate Mathematics Education (RUME) with demonstrated interest in student learning in undergraduate mathematics or statistics courses. This position is part of JMU College of Science and Mathematics’ discipline-based education research (DBER) focused on the teaching of science and mathematics in higher education. The hired candidate will join other present and incoming cohorts also focused on DBER. The candidate will be committed to developing or continuing a vibrant research program in undergraduate mathematics or statistics education. The successful candidate’s research and teaching efforts should improve teaching and learning within undergraduate courses.

The successful applicant will join an energetic and dynamic department consisting of 55 full-time faculty in the areas of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education. Our faculty are active in professional fields at the local, national, and international level and are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education. We currently offer Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, minors in Mathematics and Statistics, an M.Ed. in Mathematics, and are the core group offering a minor in Data Analytics. We care about people and value high-quality undergraduate education, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our recent efforts to support underrepresented and first-generation student populations resulted in the establishment of the Haynes Residential Learning Community.
