The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has an opening for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematical Data Science, which includes expertise in: * Data Science topics such as machine learning/AI, big data, computer vision, data mining, and data-driven modeling. * One or more complementary research areas such as Probability, Uncertainty Quantification, Statistics, Stochastic Processes, Numerical Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics/Network Analysis, and Optimization. The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty members whose research and teaching cover a wide range of areas, including data science, optimization, probability, statistics, computational mathematics, graph theory, and mathematics education. The Department has approximately 70 M.S. and Ph.D. students, and over 200 undergraduate mathematics majors.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong independent research program, supervise graduate and undergraduate student research, teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and provide service to the Department, University, and professional organizations. The successful candidate will also be expected to demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, mentoring, nurturing, and inspiring diverse students of all ethnicities, nationalities, and genders, including first-generation college undergraduates. The regular teaching load is 4 courses per year, which may be reduced for an initial period.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $80,000 to $95,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

A strong research record normalized by years of experience, which can be demonstrated by publications in high-impact journals, external funding, or peer-reviewed talks at national conferences.
