Instructional-Track Assistant Professor of Statistics The University of Rochester’s Statistics Program seeks applications for the position of a full-time instructional-track (non-tenure) assistant professor. We are looking for a candidate with a passion for teaching who will contribute to our growing undergraduate Statistics curriculum. A successful candidate will be expected to have strong teaching skills and to demonstrate a thoughtful approach to statistical pedagogy. As our introductory statistics courses grow, we are particularly seeking a candidate who has an interest in innovative pedagogical practices in order to further engage students from diverse academic backgrounds. This position starts July 1, 2018. Duties and Responsibilities: The main focus of this position will be on instruction. Teaching load will be two courses per semester, with at least one course per semester being at the introductory level. This position will be involved in teaching/developing new courses, especially those that are computation-based in order to meet the growing demand for big data, data science, and modern methodology. There will also be an expectation for this position to be involved with the workshop program for introductory statistics courses. Workshops are small groups of students who meet each week to solve challenging problems under the guidance of a peer leader who has recently completed the course successfully. As we continue to add workshops to courses, this position will be involved with recruiting student leaders, scheduling, and developing problem sets. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field. The preferred candidate will have a passion for college teaching and will demonstrate an interest in innovative statistical pedagogy. Experience with the statistical computing environment R is required, and familiarity with SAS, JMP, Minitab, and similar programs is also desirable.
