The Mathematics Department of Niagara University invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions starting Fall 2020. The area of specialization for one of the positions is open, and the successful candidate should be excited to teach major-level courses for mathematics majors, mathematics education majors, and actuarial science majors. The other position is intended to more fully support the recently launched undergraduate program in Actuarial Science. For this position, preference will be given to those candidates whose area of specialization is actuarial science or statistics. The successful candidate should be willing to teach major-level courses in the Actuarial Science major and courses designed to help students prepare for Society of Actuaries (SOA)/Exam P and SOA/Exam FM. In addition, candidates for both positions should be willing to teach service level courses including calculus and elementary statistics.

Responsibilities for both positions include teaching 9 credit hours per semester. Successful candidates will engage in mathematical scholarship and/or develop and maintain industry contacts in related fields, while providing service to the department, the University, and the community. For the open specialization position, required qualifications include a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field, a record of teaching excellence, and evidence of the ability to maintain an active research program in mathematics. For the position with actuarial science/statistics preference, highly qualified candidates who possess Associate or Fellow status with the SOA or Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) together with a Masters in mathematics or a related field, but no Ph.D., will also be considered.

A full application includes a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement or statement describing industrial experience, and at least three letters of recommendation. At least one letter should address teaching effectiveness or potential. Applicants will be considered for both positions. Applications should be submitted through mathjobs.org. Questions about the application process may be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Dr. Joel Louwsma, at jlouwsma@niagara.edu. Review of applications will begin December 1 and continue until the positions are filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the Joint Mathematics Meetings.
