Postdoc position within the research group of Ariel Neufeld 

The research focuses on:
  • stochastic optimal control 
  • model uncertainty in finance 
  • distributionally robust optimization (DRO) 
  • financial and insurance mathematics 
  • machine learning algorithms, their convergence rates and complexity analysis, and their applications in finance and insurance

Position Title: Research fellow 

Position Type: Postdoctoral

2 research fellow positions are currently available under supervision of Professor Xiang Liming to work on developing methods for analysis of complex survival data, including data subject to dependent censoring, interval censoring, competing risks, or data from clustered/longitudinal studies. Candidates must have PhD in Statistics or closely related fields with 
  • publication record in the relevant areas 
  • strong R/MATLAB programming skills 
  • strong ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong initiatives. 

Expertise in quantile regression and semiparametric modelling/inference would be considered a plus. The initial appointment will be for one year (with potential to renew for a second year).

Key Responsibilities:

Conducting research in one or more of the following fields:

  • Computation of PDE
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Generative models and Machine Learning 

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Mathematics or closely related fields
  • Publication record in the relevant areas
  • Strong Python programming skills and knowledge of JAX (or PyTorch, or Tensorflow) will be highly considered
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong initiatives

The postdoctoral position is a full-time research position with no teaching responsibilities. The position is for two years with possibilities of renewal for another year, subject to performance and funding availabilities.

  • In cooperation with PI and Co-PI, carry out numerical studies to identify promising directions for constructions and nonexistence results for equiangular tight frames
  • Produce mathematical proofs for conjectures that arise from numerical studies
