The Mathematics Department at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level for the Fall of 2018. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered at a higher rank commensurate with experience. We will consider any area of the mathematical sciences. Candidates who can broaden and enhance the educational experience of our students and department are especially encouraged to apply. We are seeking candidates who will interact well with both students and faculty in our science and engineering programs as well as strengthen our degree programs in mathematics, biomathematics, or computational science, or our current minor programs in statistics and data science.

Requirements for the position include a doctorate (or be near completion) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or closely-related field by Fall 2018, a strong commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching as well as continuous scholarly and professional development. Experience teaching undergraduate mathematics with full responsibility is desired. A research and scholarship program that supports undergraduate education or undergraduate mathematics research is also desirable. The essential job functions include: classroom teaching and student advising; curriculum development and continuous improvement; research and other professional development activities; and service to the department and institute.

Rose-Hulman is an institute of technology with approximately 2200 undergraduate engineering, science and mathematics students, and 100 masters’ students in various engineering and science programs; most of the undergraduate students are in the engineering disciplines. Every undergraduate student on campus is required to take at least five mathematics courses, with nearly everyone taking a course in either statistics or probability. Because of our strong belief in personal attention, our class sizes are small (typically under 25). A standard teaching load consists of 8 sections over three 10-week terms, with the number of course preparations limited to at most two per term. More information regarding our department can be found at .

Application: For full consideration, please apply online at, and include the following materials: cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching and research statements and graduate transcripts. Applicants who advance through the initial screening will be asked for three references who will submit recommendation letters, with at least one recommendation letter specifically addressing the applicants teaching ability and experience.

We will begin initial screening on November 20, 2017. Candidates who plan to attend the AMS-MAA Joint Meetings in San Diego should note this in their cover letter. Those candidates seeking to be considered for onsite interviews at the Joint Meetings should submit a complete application by December 3, 2017.
