Job Description: The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor, Statistics positions in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. These are nine-month positions and the anticipated start date is July 1, 2023. Salary, start-up, and benefit packages are highly competitive. Applicants must have a PhD degree in statistics, bio-statistics, mathematics, or a related area by the time of appointment. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Duties of this appointment include research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising graduate and undergraduate students, and service to the Department and University. The positions are intended to support the MS and PhD programs in Statistics and Data Science and contribute to the teaching of core courses in the Department’s mathematics and statistics curriculum. New faculty are expected to maintain an active research program, establish interdisciplinary collaborations within and across department and college boundaries, attract external funding, and support the University mission and values. All areas of statistics are considered, with preference given to applicants with expertise in Computational Statistics, Machine Learning, and Data Science. Required Qualifications: PhD degree in statistics, bio-statistics, mathematics, or related area by the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: A strong record of research and teaching, and experience with advising PhD students. Applicants with demonstrated expertise in Computational Statistics, Machine Learning, and Data Science will be given preferred consideration.
