Assistant/Associate Professor in Pure Mathematics (0.8 - 1.0 FTE)Job description Your responsibilities in research will be to continue to develop your research line individually or in collaboration with other scientists. You will apply for external funds to appoint and subsequently supervise PhD students and postdocs. Next to this you will organise relevant scientific meetings at national or international level. As teacher you will teach courses at a variety of levels, from first year undergraduate to advanced master. Master courses can be taught either at the local level or as part of the national Master programme, Mastermath. You will be involved in the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses as well as smaller scale projects. The Mathematical Institute of the Department of Mathematics currently comprises about 10 Full Professors, 20 further faculty members, 25 PhD candidates and 10 Postdocs. The Institute organises and teaches the Bachelor's curriculum in Mathematics as well as the (English-taught) Master's programme in Mathematics and some service teaching in mathematics. Around 500 students take part in our Bachelor and Master programmes. The Institute is internationally recognised for its research in both pure and applied mathematics. It houses the Utrecht Geometry Centre and maintains a long-standing tradition of transdisciplinary collaboration with other scientific fields including, among others, atmosphere/ocean sciences, computational life sciences, mathematical biology, medical and seismic imaging and theoretical physics.
