The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2018.

The department’s mathematics education faculty group contributes to outstanding programs at all levels: elementary and secondary teacher preparation, a nationally-recognized online masters degree for teachers, and doctoral studies in mathematics education. Our faculty have wide-ranging opportunities to design and teach exemplary undergraduate and graduate mathematics content and pedagogy courses, engage in K-16 educational research in a collaborative environment, and improve K-12 mathematics teaching and learning in Montana and beyond. These efforts are supported by consistent and substantial funding from NSF, DOE, and state agencies. We seek a talented and dynamic mathematics educator whose professional interests and vision complement this range of activity, whose research interests embrace mathematics education at the K-12 or collegiate level, and who will support teacher preparation and professional development programs in K-12 mathematics.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Doctorate in Mathematics Education or in Mathematics (upon start date) with a research program focused on mathematics education
  2. Masters degree in Mathematics or the equivalent (with appropriate coursework in applied or theoretical mathematics)
  3. Evidence of research potential in an area that supports K-16 mathematics education
  4. Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
  5. Ability to teach mathematics and content courses for prospective and practicing secondary teachers

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with pre-service or in-service teacher programs
  2. Demonstrated or potential ability to secure external funding
  3. Teaching experience at the secondary or high school level
  4. Experience using distance education technologies
