Research Fellow in Mathematics Dept: Mathematics £30,942 - £40,322 per annum Fixed Term Contract - 4 Years, 36.5 hours per week Location: University of Warwick - Coventry Ref: 104260 – 0821 The starting date can be between 1 January and 1 September 2022. We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to work under supervision of Prof. Oleg Pikhurko on the ERC Advanced Grant "Finite and Descriptive Combinatorics". This broad project focuses on the interplay between combinatorics and some other areas of pure mathematics (descriptive set theory, Borel and measure-preserving group actions, stochastic processes and local algorithms on locally finite graphs, etc), with applications going both ways. The main directions are descriptive combinatorics (in particular, combinatorial-type invariants of Borel graphs) and the limit theory of discrete structures (in particular, with view of applying it to various problems of extremal and probabilistic combinatorics). While a previous experience in these areas is not required, an ideal candidate will have a strong analytic background and a great interest in combinatorics. We will also be looking for the depth of applicant's previous research and her/his potential to master new areas and techniques. The grant will provide an allowance for travel and laptop purchase for the hired researcher. If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942 pa). The application should include the following documents: CV, a research statement, up to three of applicant’s selected papers or pre-prints, and 2 to 4 letters of recommendation. All applicants should ensure that all referees send their references by email to MathematicsPA@warwick.ac.uk before the deadline. Closing date: 1 November 2021. Interview date: TBC. Informal enquiries can be sent to o.pikhurko@warwick.ac.uk |
