The University of Minnesota's School of Mathematics seeks to hire multiple positions at the lecturer level for the coming academic year. The position begins in Fall 2023 and emphasizes teaching, educational development and associated scholarship activities. Initial appointments are for one year, with annual renewals contingent on satisfactory performance. Lecturers are expected to teach three courses per semester, or its equivalent through alternate service roles.

We seek applicants holding a PhD in the mathematical sciences who are looking for a long-term career focused on the educational and pedagogical aspects of the academic mission.

The School of Mathematics is committed to instructional excellence, and lecturers are an important and valued part of this mission. We work with lecturers to match their assignments and number of course preparations to their strengths and preferences. Salary is competitive.

This position provides further opportunities to supervise undergraduate research during the summer and academic year, to develop and supervise academic year enrichment programs and summer programs, and to work with our Center for Educational Programs (see cse.umn.edu/mathcep), which offers programs for mathematically talented high school students in honors-level courses at the University.

The School of Mathematics values diversity and inclusion in all of their programs, and applicants will be expected to demonstrate their commitment to equity throughout the application and subsequent interview process.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mathematics by August 28, 2023, and teaching experience at the undergraduate level are required. All applications should be submitted through MathJobs. A complete application includes:

  • A current curriculum vitae;

  • A teaching statement;

  • Three letters of reference, at least two of which directly address your teaching;

  • A cover letter describing your interest in the position, your relevant experience, and the ways in which your mathematical training would enhance the department’s mission.

Applications submitted by December 7, 2022 will receive full consideration, and we will continue reviewing all applications for as long as the position remains open. The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity Employer/Educator and especially encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. The School of Mathematics is also committed to supporting the work-life balance of its faculty and is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.

Inquiries about the position can be directed to Professor Benjamin Brubaker, Head of the School of Mathematics (brubaker@umn.edu), or to Professor Bryan Mosher, Director of Undergraduate Studies (mosher@umn.edu).
