Guido Montúfar and Bernd Sturmfels at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, Germany invite applications for aPostdoctoral Researcher
The position is being offered within the research project "Combinatorial and Implicit Approaches to Deep Learning”, which is part of the Priority Programme "Theoretical Foundations of Deep Learning" (SPP 2298) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) www.foundationsofdl.de/.Qualifications:
The ideal candidate
- holds a PhD or is near completing their PhD,
- has excellent communication skills and a strong background in mathematics and machine learning,
- particularly mathematical optimization, polyhedral geometry, algebraic geometry, neural networks, or related areas,
- and is eager to contribute to high-paced research in Deep Learning Theory emphasizing combinatorial and algebraic geometric aspects of learning with neural networks, parameter optimization, neural architectures, and data.
About the location: MPI MiS is an international center for pure and applied mathematical research in Leipzig, Germany. The broader scientific environment in Leipzig includes two other Max Planck Institutes (Cognitive Science and Evolutionary Anthropology) as well as the University of Leipzig.
We offer:
- Postdoctoral position for 1 up to 3 years. (TVÖD E13).
- No teaching duties, but the possibility to teach an advanced course in our international graduate school.
- We provide a scientific environment where you are encouraged to explore new scientific directions and where you will find many partners with whom you can discuss a wide range of scientific ideas.
