Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Mathematics, anticipated to begin fall semester 2026. We seek candidates with expertise in two or more of the following areas: mathematical modeling, computational mathematics, and stochastic processes. Completion of the Ph.D. is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire.

The successful candidate will enhance our advanced undergraduate applied mathematics courses, create research opportunities for senior students, and support introductory-level offerings. They will collaborate with colleagues to refine the applied mathematics curriculum, contribute to the department's research profile, and participate in Colgate's Liberal Arts Core Curriculum (https://www.colgate.edu/academics/core-curriculum) and other university-wide initiatives.

A cover letter, curriculum vitae, three current reference letters, a research statement, and a teaching statement must be submitted through Mathjobs at (https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/26755). At least two letters should describe the research skills of the candidate and at least one should describe the teaching skills of the candidate in detail. The application should include a description of how the candidate’s scholarly interests, broadly defined, can engage undergraduate students either by sparking their curiosity in, or by directly involving them with, the research process. If available, we encourage candidates to include student evaluations of teaching.

Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. In their application materials, candidates must describe their ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of identities and backgrounds. Please indicate the location of this description in the cover letter; this location could be the cover letter itself, the teaching statement, or the research statement. Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
