The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 43 permanent faculty and offers bachelors' degrees in mathematics, secondary mathematics education, and data science; and masters' degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics, as well as various undergraduate minors and graduate certificates. About the Position
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Northern Arizona University (NAU) seeks a dynamic and innovative teacher for a position as assistant teaching professor beginning August 19, 2024. The successful applicant will further NAU's commitment to promoting student success in teaching mathematics courses across campus. This is a 9-month non-tenure track position.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching entry-level and more advanced undergraduate mathematics courses, and possibly graduate courses depending upon qualifications and availability.
- Engaging in professional development and/or scholarly activity.
- Faculty service.
This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
Minimum Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- A PhD degree in mathematics [or in a closely related field] expected by August 19, 2024.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed PhD degree at the time of application.
- A record of teaching at the college level that includes being the instructor of record for at least two different mathematics courses.
- Ability to teach a wide variety of courses.
- Interest or experience in advancing curricular excellence through: improving pedagogy; developing courses or curriculum; or otherwise engaging the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Interest or experience in mentoring undergraduate research.
Compensation & Benefits
Anticipated salary range is $60,000 to $65,712. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the NAU HR benefits page. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
