The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Wesleyan University invites applications for two visiting assistant professorships in mathematics to begin in Fall 2025. Each appointment will run from September 1, 2025 until June 30, 2026, and may be renewed, depending on performance and available funding, for up to two additional years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as a Visiting Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in mathematics or related field within one year of hire. Candidates must possess, or be close to completing, a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, and must have strong records in teaching and a demonstrated interest in teaching at a liberal arts college. Teaching duties will be three courses in one semester and two courses in the other semester. Mentoring in successful teaching practices will be provided by faculty in the department.
Wesleyan University is a leading liberal arts school with approximately 3000 students, located in Middletown, Connecticut, halfway between Boston and New York and also halfway between Hartford and New Haven. The university has graduate programs leading to doctoral and master's degrees in the sciences and ethnomusicology. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science awards the Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, and the M.A. degrees in Mathematics as well as Computer Science. There are thirteen mathematicians and seven computer scientists in the department, as well as approximately seventeen graduate students. The low student to faculty ratio ensures close contact between faculty and graduate students. Wesleyan has a strong and diverse undergraduate student body and values both scholarship and teaching very highly.
