Lectureship/Readership in Probability Grade UE08/UE09 Salary - £43,414 - £51,805, £54,949 – 61,823 per annum School of Mathematics Full time, open ended The School of Mathematics is asking to appoint to a lectureship in Probability (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to start on 1st May 2023 or later by agreement. Very strong and experienced applicants may be appointed to a Readership (equivalent to Associate Professor). The opportunity: We are recruiting in Probability and Stochastic Analysis (broadly interpreted). We expect candidates to have either an established record of first-class research or to be able to demonstrate excellent research potential. Those pursuing interdisciplinary research with links to other fields, for instance, Computing, Engineering, Finance, Physics, or links to industry are also encouraged to apply. In addition to carrying out high-quality research, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate courses and the teaching and further development of our successful MSc programmes in Mathematical Finance. The School has particular strengths in stochastic analysis, pure analysis and PDEs, applied probability, mathematical finance, machine learning, and computational modelling, with a wide variety of interests across all aspects of probability. We are looking for first class researchers to enhance or complement those strengths, who are self-starting, and have a keen interest in probability as part of the scientific process of figuring out how the modern world works. The role will also include the supervision of student projects and involvement in assessment of students, helping to develop courses and connect with industry where this is appropriate, and teaching-related administration. The School takes career development seriously and will provide appropriately tailored mentoring in both research and teaching. A PhD in Probability (or closely related discipline) and some experience of teaching related to probability at University level is essential, as well as being able to demonstrate independence, effective team working, good communication and interpersonal skills. Salary Scale: £43,414 - £51,805 per annum. Very strong and experienced applicants may be appointed to a Readership, for which the salary is £54,949 - £61,823.
