Position Description

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenured department chair position at the rank of associate or full professor in the Department of Computer Science, beginning August 2024 or earlier. The successful candidate will provide leadership as the department seeks to recruit and retain faculty, develop new curricular offerings, secure additional resources, and build industry partnerships within Austin's thriving technology sector. For consideration, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience Include:

• Organizational leadership and administration experience
• Track record of excellence in teaching, research, and service
• Familiarity with institutional dynamics to manage growing academic programs
• Understanding of trends in computer science and related fields
• Interest and ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses and direct undergraduate research projects
• Experience with curriculum development and assessment
• A demonstrated potential for external funding
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Essential Responsibilities Include:

• Teaching a typical load of four to five courses per year
• Scholarly activities at a level appropriate for undergraduate institutions; academic advising; and service to the university, school, and department
• Chair-specific responsibilities, including scheduling and staffing courses, evaluation and development of faculty, budget management, liaising with administrators, and oversight of curriculum development and assessment
• Cultivating relationships within the vibrant Austin technology sector to expand experiential learning opportunities for students and help grow an already successful department
• Working collaboratively with department faculty to develop new academic programs in support of the university's strategic priorities, and recruiting faculty to support these programs

About the Department of Computer Science: The Department of Computer Science offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Computer Science and a B.A. degree in Computer Information Science. The department currently has 4 tenured/tenured-track faculty, 2 full-time specialized faculty, and 5 adjunct faculty members.
