Postdoctoral position in Statistical Epidemiology

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo is seeking applications for a post-doctoral fellow for a one-year appointment with possibility of renewal for a second year. The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Alex Stringer with additional guidance and mentorship from Dr. Patrick Brown of the Centre for Global Health Research at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

The position is partially funded by a research contract with Health Canada. Teaching is not mandatory for this position, but the postdoctoral fellow may have the opportunity to teach (with compensation) no more than one course in Statistics or Actuarial Science per academic year based on teaching qualifications.

The fellow will develop novel non-linear, multi-pollutant models for trends in the associations of air pollution concentrations with health outcomes. Fitted models will be used to make inferences about these associations, with findings to be disseminated in both Statistics and Epidemiology journals. The work will be based on a rich and comprehensive database of proprietary health data provided by Health Canada for purposes of executing this research. The fellow will be part of a larger research group in computational statistics and biostatistics, located within a large and vibrant Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo, and have access to substantial institutional computing resources to support their work.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in Statistics or Biostatistics. Strong computational and data skills and enthusiasm are required.

The position will be posted until a suitable candidate is found, and can commence as early as May 1st, 2023. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Alex Stringer via email (alex.stringer@uwaterloo.ca) with an application package including: a brief cover letter (one half to one page) describing their background and interest in this position, doctoral transcripts (unofficial), curriculum vitae, and links to or PDFs of one or two of your manuscripts or preprints that you are most proud of. Letters of reference are not required but please include them if they are available. Alternatively, applicants can submit the required documentation on MathJobs.
