DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS
Full-time Lecturer (non-tenure-track)

The Department of Mathematics at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer, starting September 1, 2024. The lecturer will have a 3-3 teaching load, with responsibilities in course development, organization, and coordination arranged as course equivalents. This position requires organizing, coordinating, and teaching Linear Algebra and other introductory courses as well as training and supervising teaching assistants, working with other faculty members in the identification and/or development of course materials.

This faculty member’s additional responsibilities will include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, as well as other administrative tasks associated with the undergraduate program. Lecturers are expected to participate in department, school, and university-wide service. There may be opportunities for (optional) teaching and mentoring activities in the summer.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as mathematics or applied mathematics, by the time the position begins. University-level teaching experience is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creative and student-centered teaching as well as a track record of outreach and mentorship with diverse student populations. Ideally, the candidate will have experience participating in and organizing large service level courses. In particular, the candidate will have expertise in the teaching of Linear Algebra to a broad range of students who need this as a foundational topic for a variety of majors. The job requires technological experience with course and homework delivery platforms such as Canvas and Gradescope.  Applicants should have a versatile teaching portfolio and demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.
