PhD position in biological physics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore

Dr. Endao Han and Dr. Cyrus Mostajeran in the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have a shared PhD scholarship (August 2025 intake). We invite interested candidates to apply by directly contacting Dr. Han and Dr. Mostajeran.

Dr. Han is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Physics and Applied Physics. His lab works on experimental biological physics and soft matter physics exploiting state-of-the-art imaging and data processing techniques. Current projects include the collective motion of bacteria, mechanics of bacterial colonies and biofilms, and physics of active matter. His website: https://endaohan1988.wixsite.com/hanlab.

Dr. Mostajeran is a Nanyang Assistant Professor in the Division of Mathematical Sciences. He works on the applications of geometry to optimization and data science and is also interested in problems at the interface of geometry and dynamics. Further information can be found at his website: https://www.cyrusmostajeran.com

The project is on the collective motion of bacteria on curved surfaces. It involves experiments, theory, and numerical simulations and presents an exciting opportunity for groundbreaking interdisciplinary research at a leading global university. The student will be co-supervised by the two PIs. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in biophysics, soft matter physics, fluid mechanics, scientific computing, differential geometry, and data science.

Requirements for PhD applicants:

·      A competitive GPA.

·      Candidates from non-English-speaking countries need a good TOEFL or IELTS score. A GRE score is preferred.

Please apply by 31 January 2025.

To apply, please email your CV and the contact information of two referees to endao.han@ntu.edu.sg and cyrussam.mostajeran@ntu.edu.sg. Kindly note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
