Nanyang Technological University, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences,, Division of Mathematical Sciences
Scholarship Description
The PhD in Mathematical Sciences programme
offered by the Division of Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological
University, Singapore, is a four year program that provides students with a
stimulating environment for conducting original research in mathematical
sciences.
For more information on the degree programme, please see https://www.ntu.edu.sg/spms/about-us/mathematics/grad/phd
A limited number of scholarships covering tuition fees and stipend for the four years of the degree programme is available. Please see https://www.ntu.edu.sg/spms/admissions/grad/scholarships for more information.
PhD position in biological
physics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore
Dr. Endao
Han and Dr. Cyrus Mostajeran in the School of Physical and Mathematical
Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have a shared PhD
scholarship (August 2025 intake). We invite interested candidates to apply by directly
contacting Dr. Han and Dr. Mostajeran.
Dr. Han is an Assistant
Professor in the Division of Physics and Applied Physics. His lab works on
experimental biological physics and soft matter physics exploiting state-of-the-art
imaging and data processing techniques. Current projects include the collective
motion of bacteria, mechanics of bacterial colonies and biofilms, and physics
of active matter. His website: https://endaohan1988.wixsite.com/hanlab.
Dr. Mostajeran is a
Nanyang Assistant Professor in the Division of Mathematical Sciences. He works
on the applications of geometry to optimization and data science and is also
interested in problems at the interface of geometry and dynamics. Further
information can be found at his website: https://www.cyrusmostajeran.com
The project is on the
collective motion of bacteria on curved surfaces. It involves experiments,
theory, and numerical simulations and presents an exciting opportunity for
groundbreaking interdisciplinary research at a leading global university. The
student will be co-supervised by the two PIs. Preference will be given to
candidates with a background in biophysics, soft matter physics, fluid
mechanics, scientific computing, differential geometry, and data science.
Requirements for PhD
applicants:
·
A competitive GPA.
· Candidates
from non-English-speaking countries need a good TOEFL or IELTS score. A GRE
score is preferred.
Please apply by 31 January
2025.
To apply,
please email your CV and the contact information of two referees to endao.han@ntu.edu.sg and cyrussam.mostajeran@ntu.edu.sg.
Kindly note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Position Type: PhD
Location: NTU, Singapore
Deadline: The position is open until filled
Research Opportunities at the School of Physical and
Mathematical Sciences of NTU Singapore
We
are excited to announce multiple research opportunities in applied mathematics
at the level of PhD positions for graduate students and postdoctoral research
fellowships within the framework of a 5-year research grant on Geometric
Optimization and Design in Learning and Robotics. The vacancies are targeted at
applied mathematicians, computational scientists, physicists, and candidates
with expertise in closely related fields who are interested in research at the
interface between geometry, mechanics, materials science, computation, and
control theory.
Applicants for PhD positions are expected to have a strong
background in mathematics with a degree in mathematics or a closely related
field, combined with a passionate interest in the development and application
of advanced mathematical tools to problems in fields such as data science,
robotics, and machine learning. Successful candidates will receive a four-year
grant towards obtaining a PhD in mathematics. Some candidates may need to
provide GRE scores and/or proof of proficiency in English according to NTU
admissions policy. Expected commencement
dates for graduate students are August 2025 and January 2026.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science/Statistics or related fields
- Evidence of excellence in at least one of the following areas: analysis, differential geometry, optimization, probability and statistics
- Good
communication skills including fluency in English
Interested candidates should contact Asst. Prof. Cyrus
Mostajeran with their CV for consideration.
