Position Description

Positions: Two positions (12-month) as a 1-year, renewable, Postdoctoral Teaching and Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics beginning August 10, 2025, subject to availability of funding. Responsibilities of Position: 
Teaching two courses of introductory mathematics (such as precalculus or college algebra) per semester using active learning strategies in a coordinated setting. Participation in professional development related to teaching and research in a university setting. Conducting collaborative research with the tenure-track faculty in the mathematics department.

Qualifications: 
A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or related field, is required at the time of the appointment. Applicants must be within five years of earning their Ph.D. Preference will be given to candidates with a clearly identified research agenda in applied analysis, algebra, geometry, set theory, or other areas of pure and applied mathematics related to Department interests as well as experience with teaching introductory mathematics courses. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a postdoctoral fellow at VCU.

The mission of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is to offer a strong undergraduate and graduate education, with an increasing focus on the development of cross-disciplinary efforts that will prepare our students for real-world applications and stimulating employment and career opportunities. Key current objectives of the department include the improvement of student outcomes in our lower level courses and advancing the research profile of our department.
